Home Inspector – License Information

To obtain a new credential by examination:

1. Pass the national examination.

Applicants are required to pass the National Home Inspector Examination administered by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI). For more information about the exam, please visit their web page at http://www.homeinspectionexam.org/.

To schedule an exam, please call PSI Services LLC at 1‑800‑733‑9267 between 7:30 am and 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time, or by visiting the PSI Services web site. (Click here to go directly to web sign-up.)

Applicants must pass an examination to test knowledge of state statutes and code. The Department will send each applicant an application ID number and instructions via e-mail to take the state exam on-line. You must correctly answer at least 85% of the questions to pass. You may retake the exam as many times as you wish.

To obtain a credential by endorsement:

There is no provision for home inspectors registered in other states to obtain a credential by endorsement.

To obtain a temporary credential:

The Department does not provide temporary registration to home inspectors.

To reinstate a credential (expired more than five years):

1. Complete 40 hours of continuing education.
