Home Inspector – Registration Information

To obtain a Home Inspector registration by examination:

1. Pass the national examination.

Applicants are required to pass the National Home Inspector Examination administered by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors (EBPHI). To schedule an appointment to take the National Home Inspector exam, contact EBPHI directly at http://www.homeinspectionexam.org/ or (800) 733-9267.

2. Submit an application. A complete application includes:

Applicants must pass an examination to test knowledge of state statutes and code. The Department will send each applicant an application ID number and instructions via e-mail to take the state exam on-line. You must correctly answer at least 85% of the questions to pass. You may retake the exam as many times as you wish.

To reinstate a Home Inspector registration (expired more than five years):

1. Complete 40 hours of continuing education.
